Moving Hosting companies
why?...
At the moment we're in the process of moving hosting companies as the one that we're currently with is not performing as well as we need, with out core site (vivosystems.co.uk) going down almost daily. So where do we move our hosting? Well we did a lot of looking around for managed servers, co-location, VPS, hosting etc etc the list goes on and so do the people able to provide it. We needed something reliable, but saleable. It needed to be flexible enough that we could scale up if needed and back down again, say for a product launch where initial hits may go up and then back down again but we didn't want to have to pay for that bandwidth all year round, only when we needed it. So I started looking at companies, usually I start looking at reviews which is what I did this time and some of the better articles I looked at seemed proposing and after a few hours of looking and reviewing I decided I'd found one, the feedback and reviews were awesome and I though why not! The company is vps.net and I have to say that so far I've been thrilled. It's fairly obvious that it's a VPS account (Virtual Private Server), but the system is based on nodes the more power you need the more nodes you have, simple! So I joined, booted up the VPS with CentOS image and started to configure the box, FTP, SSH, users, PHP, Apache etc etc etc.. I used one of our testing domains to experiment with changing the DNS settings before I start moving real sites such as this!... but so far, so good..
This is my point, over the next week or so the DNS entries for vivosystems.co.uk are going to move from our current hosting to our new hosting, the sites will be set up but if there are problems, then please be patient, I'll post the date we plan on doing the upgrade nearer the time and a temporary e-mail address as e-mail will also be out of action for a while.
